Boy drowns in Vernon County after falling through ice

VERNON COUNTY — A 17-year-old Amish boy drowned Saturday while cutting blocks of ice on a spring-fed pond near the family’s farm, Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said. The father of the boy contacted the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office shortly after noon, reporting that his son may have fallen through the ice and that they were unable to locate him.
